At Harlington Lower School, we believe that music is for everyone! Our aim is for all children to develop the self-confidence, skills, knowledge, and understanding they need to enjoy a lifelong love of music. Whether they go on to pursue music further or simply appreciate it as part of their daily lives, we are committed to providing a secure foundation for every child to explore and engage with music in meaningful ways.

Curriculum

We also recognise the importance of supporting our teachers in delivering an excellent music
education. By using SingUp as the foundation of our curriculum, we ensure that:

• Teachers feel empowered and equipped with the knowledge they need to teach music confidently.
• Practical music-making activities are accessible and engaging for students and teachers alike.
• The lessons are designed to work brilliantly with the children in front of them, fostering both enjoyment and learning for everyone involved.

Co-curricular music

We also offer one-to-one and small-group instrumental tuition through Inspiring Music. Please contact the school office for more information on this. 

We also run a school choir and a recorder club for any pupil in KS1 and KS2. These are free to join.

Additional opportunities

In addition to music lessons, we also provide the following musical opportunities for pupils:

• Daily singing in assembly.
• Schedule of music to come into the assembly to has been planned for the year to ensure exposure to a range of musicians.
• Weekly singing assembly to sing and learn new songs.
• Music assembly termly for children to perform a solo piece of music on the piano or play in a group (recorder and P-Buzz).
• Opportunities for the choir to sing at the music assembly, carolling events, small audience events local to school.
• Choir participate with the local town band in a Christmas concert.
• Whole school trip to the pantomime.
• Weekly singing lesson for Year 3 with Inspiring Music and an opportunity to perform in a choir alongside children from other local schools, at The Grove Theatre, Dunstable. Participation is free for pupils and parents can pay to attend in the audience.
• Early Years Christmas Performance – free for parents.
• KS1 Christmas Musical performance – free for parents.
• KS2 End of Year Musical performance – free for parents.
• Carol service for the whole school at the local parish church.
• Easter service for the whole school at the Methodist Church.
